Some mod items are things such as hairstyles and clothing. They are also tweeks to already existing items or actions, new creations by mod designers and some of them really open up your world. What is a Mod? A mod allows you to access features and options in the Sims 3 game that you normally wouldn’t have access to. It is actually VERY easy to add mods to your game.

I also am willing to bet that you tried to download some things that are called Mods – and received an error message.
